The ban that has been on Tunisian women not to marry non-Muslims has been lifted as the law given for this has been overturned.
This was made known by A spokeswoman for President Beji Caid Essebsi who congratulated the women for gaining “the freedom to choose one’s spouse.”

She confirmed that the law that has banned Tunisian women from marrying non-Muslims has been overturned.
The law has made it compulsory in the past for any non-Muslim man to convert to Islam first with a proof of certificate of conversion submitted before marrying a Tunisian woman.
The press for a change in the marriage restriction law that has been put in place since 1973 came through President Essebsi.

The President made it known in his speech during the National Women’s day celebration; he mentioned that the marriage law was “an obstacle to the freedom of choice of the spouse”.
