8 people have been discovered dead and 15 people recovered alive but injured at the building collapse that occurred yesterday at 3, Massey Street, Lagos Island.
The building which was said to have been a three storey building before the fourth one was recently added is owned by the Kafo’s family.
The incident occurred at 3 pm yesterday with people trapped in the debris. Some of those trapped were reported to be children.
Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency who is presently at the location confirmed that 11 victims were rescued as at 7:30 pm yesterday. it was reported that phone calls were heard from under the building with people suspected to be calling for help from the collapsed building.
He confirmed this afternoon that a boy of 11 years was rescued this morning as at 4:00 am with 3 other people later in the day. Officials of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Red Cross and Policemen are at the scene still trying to rescue trapped victims.
The cause of the building collapse has not yet been known as the officials are still busy trying to rescue the victims.
