- Making room for your feelings. Allow yourself the time and space to genuinely feel any emotion that arises within you. Allow yourself a few minutes or more to feel angry if you’re angry. Allow it to wash over you, take a deep breath, and then let it go as quickly as it came.
- Please tell us about your experience. Whether you talk to a friend, a family member, or a therapist about your feelings and experiences, make sure you take the time to work through and properly process them. Feeling your sentiments is a good start, but allowing them to make their way out of you through verbal processing is also crucial to sorting through the debris of your relationship and moving ahead.
- Getting out of the house. Staying holed up in your house after a breakup may seem appealing, especially if your and your partner’s social activities were centred around each other, but doing so may prolong your breakup blues. When social invites arrive, try to get out with friends or loved ones to make new memories with the people you trust.
- Look to the future. Keep in mind that you believed it was the proper option to end your relationship. Consider the changes that have arisen since your relationship ended, as well as the reasons you chose to terminate it in the first place as it will help you shape your mindset into a better view of things to come.
