Sex should be fun, comfortable, pleasant, and without pain. But in fact, pain is a big disruptor sometimes.
It’s usually women who feel it the most when it comes to pain felt during sex. However, during sex, men can also experience pain. In what should be an enjoyable encounter, men experience pain when their sexual performance affects them, developing a fear of penetration that can lead to impotence—with an effect on all relationships that result?
Here are some possible reasons why a man may suffer pain during sex.
- Sexually transmitted infections
Exposure to a remaining untreated sexually transmitted (STI) infection can lead a man to pain during sex. Gonorrhea and herpes are two examples of STIs that can cause sexual pain.
Only in a clinic or a doctor’s office will a man know for sure that he has an STI. There is no time for worrying about the STI stigma because it can lead to worse, potentially long-lasting symptoms if left untreated.
- Urinary Tract Infections
While only 20 percent of UTIs are diagnosed in men, they are never less painful. Young men do not have UTIs, but chances are that they will get the infection with age. Sexual hygiene, proper drinking water, and a healthy bladder certainly keep it away. However, medicines can only be healed if you get them.
- Penis deformities
Everyone with scar tissue can lead to painful intercourse from trauma or infection of the penis.
Another cause of pain men can experience during sex is hypospadias, a male birth defect in which the opening of the urethra is on the bottom of the penis. Other possible factors include brain or cancer and urinary tract stones.
For assistance or treatment, men with any of these conditions should consult a urologist.
- Issues with the foreskin of the penis
A condition called phimosis can also be a cause of pain during intercourse. Inability to retract the skin on the head of the penis causes phimosis to lead to an excessively tight pre-skin. Additional problems may arise if any damage, like tearing, friction, or swelling, all leading to pain occurs.
