4 great life lessons that we learn from the story of Joseph the son of Jacob – 2
From our previous discussion, we had seen some 4 things we can learn from Joseph and our relationship with others. Now, we will consider the remaining parts. l
1. Prolonged remorse
Joseph’s brothers confessed, “We are guilty about our brother, for we have seen the anguish of his soul when he begged us: but we have not heard; therefore this anguish cometh upon us.” (Genesis 42:21). Twenty years after they sold Joseph as a slave, they still felt remorse for the evil they had done.
If they had repented and confessed their error before their father and the Lord, and tried to rescue their brother, they would have obtained pardon and, consequently, peace for their soul. But they preferred to keep the secret for all this time, which caused them all this anguish.
This lesson is for us. The healing power of Christ is at our disposal to seek relief. The longer we procrastinate repentance, the longer our suffering will be.
2. The Miracle of Forgiveness
After testing whether his brethren were truly sorry, Joseph revealed himself to them, “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. Now do not be grieved, neither do you in your eyes because you have sold me to here”. Even after everything they did against him, Joseph forgave them without any reservation.
Regardless of what happens, we need to be willing to forgive our family members or whoever hurts us in the same way.
3. Understand the purposes of God
Joseph said, “God has sent me before you to keep your succession on earth, and to keep you alive for a great deliverance.” Because of what happened to Joseph, his family was spared from famine, as was all the land of Egypt. (Genesis 45: 4-8)
We need to learn to identify blessings disguised as trials.
4. “All things work together for the good of those who love God”
Joseph’s life story shows us that he sought to act always with wisdom. He did the right things for the right reason. Joseph was able to turn all the misfortune he had in life into something good.
About this Hartman Rector Jr said, “This ability to make everything into something good seems to be a divine trait. Our Heavenly Father is always able to achieve it.” However dreadful it may be, it becomes a victory for the Lord People like [Joseph] can not be overcome, because they never give up fighting.”
Do You think that as a Christian you can really practice the good qualities that Joseph exhibited? Then you can learn a great lesson from that. I hope you will practice it and get back to us.
